About HUTI

A skilled Devon-based timber construction team

We are a small, highly experienced, multi disciplinary team who specialise in the creation of timber architecture such as barn-houses, annexes, cabins, studios, treehouses and other engineered structures.

Our aim is simple: To create inspirational, thoughtfully designed & beautifully crafted timber spaces.

Our range of timber construction services:

Working across the South West, our work is mostly bespoke and spans design, fabrication and build services.
We manage complete projects and can offer tailored solutions to clients in response to their individual project brief. We operate in 3 ways:

Complete project management

We work as Principal Contractor and manage the complete on-site build within the South Hams in conjunction with your architect.

Workshop fabrication & installation

We work as specialist carpentry contractors, manufacturing and installing timber frames, buildings and structures across the UK, helping with technical design & detailing where necessary. We offer tailored packages and a range of in-house pre-designed configurable buildings.

Design services & pre-build advice

We undertake both concept & technical design work, offer guidance regarding build feasibility and advice on navigating the Planning & Building Regulation framework.

Experience & expertise

We are a diverse bunch of designers, carpenters, makers and project managers, all time-served and with decades of industry experience in our respective fields. We have all been working with wood in a multitude of ways for most of our lives and the team embodies a marriage of varied skillsets - covering amongst others: 3D design, construction, structural carpentry, oak framing, furniture making, set design, woodland building, joinery, and timber engineering.

We put a lot of effort into bringing together people who genuinely care about what they do, value craft and have a passion for designing and making beautiful things. We work alongside a wide range of associated trades and professionals.

Design | Make | Build: an integrated approach

We believe that the key to a successful project is finding the right team. One that you can trust.

Designing, making and building are not separate but 3 strands of a whole process. An intimate understanding of each discipline is necessary to inform the others and the reality of most projects is that the design continues to evolve well into the build phase. Therefore, in contrast to much of the building industry, we work as an interdisciplinary team, integrating the design, workshop and on-site aspects to deliver complete buildings and bespoke projects. We bring creative responses to each clients’ individual brief and our experience is that projects benefit significantly at all stages from our range of perspectives and skill-sets, while the single point of contact keeps things simple for our clients.

Quality & craft

“Quality: hard to define but you know it when you experience it…”

Quality is something which everybody wants and most companies say they offer, but it is hard to discern simply from marketing images and often forgotten about when engaged in a price-oriented tender process. Quality doesn’t have to be expensive (in fact often the care & focus required means efficiency and momentum) but achieving it does mean recognising that it sometimes takes a little more to do things well and to value the people who bring their dedication and skill to the table.

For us quality means truly caring about what we do, having a vision and the experience to execute it beautifully. It’s summed up in one word:

‘Craft’

We craft our buildings. We are used to putting love into the process and are proud of our emphasis on material selection, thoughtful design, and getting the details right – the things which make a project special. So if you are thinking of starting a timber construction project we invite you to come and see our work: the depth of skill and experience we can bring to a project is not that common and we believe the difference is clear.
