The Woodshed - A Writer’s Woodland Retreat
An off-grid timber framed cabin on stilts in a secluded Devon valley serving as a retreat for a writer and film maker.
Built originally from high quality Douglas Fir, the ex-Forestry Commission woodshed in South Devon had stood for 25 years and was in need of some love. HUTI was engaged to stabilise the structure and undertake essential repairs to ensure it makes it comfortably through the next 25 years with renewed purpose. After surveying the structure and foundations we jacked up and levelled the building and cut out the bottom section of each post to isolate the timber from ground water. Working with our engineer and steel fabricator we designed steel feet to be retro-fitted to the posts. The walls were rebuilt and insulated, and the roof replaced and opened up to views to the South. The final space will allow our client to enjoy tranquility of the woodland setting and hopefully find inspiration for her next creative project.
